Sleep didn't come easy to him during the night, he was haunted by the images in his mind. That and his fever and leg made it hard to get comfortable. Sure the medic had given him some meds to help out but he hadn't been taking them. The last thing Jake wanted was to be under the influence of some drug if those creatures came back. When he noticed that the darkness started to fade, he left the building and took up position in the sniper's nest he had made up yesterday after Jack told him to take point there. He wasn't sure who the two people were up on look out duty but he felt safer having himself near his gun.
He carefully made his way up to the top of the building, it was one of the taller buildings and the part he was in had four windows, so he had a good look out in all directions. His leg had protested during the walk up the stairs but he was glad it was over and that he didn't have to go back down them for a while. His eyes glanced down at his watch which read about 3:30 am. Last time the attack too place at 5 am. When the sun was just over looking the horizon. He kept looking out through his scope and so far it was nothing but the stillness of the planet still waking up.
5 am came and went without so much as a sound besides the rumble of thunder in the distance. He waited another two hours before the rumble of his stomach was competing with the sound of thunder. Jake could smell that someone was cooking something for breakfast and it smelled good but he still didn't feel like eating. For once he was starting to feel tired. A hand came up and wiped a bit of sweat away from his forehead before he limped passed Daniel who was standing near the wood stove cooking something. He laid back down on the cot that he had claimed as his own. Everyone else seemed to be off starting the day because the sound was that of the wood stove and he didn't see anyone else around. The rifle he laid down on the floor.
He just hoped today would be as quiet as the morning was, he needed the break and the rest. Jake laid an arm over his eyes as he laid there, thinking he would try to sneak away and check out some more of the area but he knew he better not push himself to far or let O'Neill see he was up and about like that. A deep sigh was given as he thought about the storm that seemed to be moving in. He wondered how badly this place would leak or if it would. He had made up something from very large leaves, sticks and some cord to cover up the windows. It seemed to hold in the warm very nice, he just hoped it could keep the elements out. He wasn't sure who repaired the door but at least it was one less thing that need fixed up here.
