[Before the main plot]
Stepping through the gate back to earth wasn’t how Kaylee had expected it. When she’d first left to Atlantis she’d instantly felt homesick, now it was reversed. Atlantis was her home, her new home anyway, and being back in the SGC made her homesick for the galaxy so far away. She couldn’t imagine being away for longer than her scheduled return (two weeks) and instantly felt guilty, after all, she was home to see her mom.
Heading into the SGC’s mess hall she went over and got a tray and stood in line, waiting on coffee and breakfast, which just so happened to be porridge. Her backpack rested over one shoulder, he laptop heavy inside it. Grabbing a cup of coffee, a muffin, some toast and her porridge she turned back to the half crowed hall and sighed. If this had been Atlantis she would have been able to go to her normal spot, but this wasn’t Atlantis, so instead she found an empty table, sat her tray down, took a seat, pulled out her laptop and fired it up. Holding onto her spoon she twirled it in between her fingers and sighed, finally starting in on the food in front of her.
Once her laptop was up and running she pulled up a Microsoft Word Document and started to type up, from memory, a mission report on the last planet she’d been too. Nothing exciting had happened, which was probably a blessing, but Kaylee was beginning to yearn for excitement, to get her hands dirty and kick some ass, provided the ass she was kicking was a Wraith’s.
Sitting up she looked around her surroundings and then to the entranceway, seeing who was coming in...

Jack and SG-1 had came back from a another planet. Just searching the planet. Met some aliens, Daniel did his stuff that he did as well did carter and everyone else. It was like clock work in another day through the gate. Luckily for them it was a night mission, and Hammond would give them till tonight or so to file their mission report in.
Besides taking care of business, jack made his way into the mess hall, grabbed some fruit, an bowl of porridge, and a cup of coffee. Seeing as how his team was getting some sleep, which he would wind up doing later, he made his way to a table with a non familiar face, as her fingers swept across the keys. Making his way behind the girl and sitting next to her, jack placed his tray down and said "Busy bee aren't we. Mighty early in the morning to be doing this." said Jack as he ate some of the porridge, and drank some of his coffee.
He wasn't sure if she had gone off world during the night and did not get back till before he did or what. Fiddling with his spoon in the porridge, jack just twirled it around. Sometimes the mess hall in the sgc could have a buffet instead of pre served meals. It was free and can't go wrong with that.

Kaylee was so into her report she almost didn’t hear Jack O’Neill take a seat beside her, but the moment she heard his voice she knew it had to be him. Tearing her eyes away from the computer screen she glanced up at him and smiled, taking a quick sip of her coffee and placing it back down. She hadn’t realized how busy she’d been writing in every detail about the mission and how quickly time had gone by.
“It’s never too early sir,” she told him quietly with a warm smile. “Especially if you haven’t slept all night.” She glanced back at her screen and suppressed a yawn. She’d be taking a plane back to Canada soon and that was when she figured she could sleep, for now though, she was still wired up and homesick for Atlantis to even want to rest. Looking back to Jack O’Neill, she stared at him in a kind of awe. She’d never met him, save passing him in the hallways a few times, but really she’d only read about him on a few mission reports she’d been given access to when she’d first arrived at the SGC almost a year ago, and been briefed about the Stargate Program. Having him sitting beside her was... well, something of an honour.
“Um,” she managed to get out, trying not to sound like a complete idiot as she shifted a bit in her seat. “You’re Jack O’Neill right? Of SG-1?” She bit her lip, hoping she was right and not catching his doppelganger by mistake. She wasn’t sure if she should introduce herself as Rodney’s daughter, not everyone was a fan of her dad, especially a few members of SG-1.

"Ah. Well as you were." said Jack making a half way smirk and getting back to eating his porridge. Where did he know this girl from? Did he meet her on a mission somewhere, or was she a friendly face in the halls? Hell if he knew who she was. Guaranteed, he could look through the personnel records and manually find out who she was, but that would require effort on his part.
Jack glanced over a little bit and saw that she was staring in awe. Few gave him that look of awe, and wonder that she had. "Are you new here?" said Jack putting his spoon, and turning his head to the side slightly. "Cause i could of sworn i saw you somewhere." said jack as he looked at the girl a little bit and turned his head to the normal position.
He heard the girl asked about him being what he was. Colonel Jack O'Neill of SG-1. "Why yes, i am Jack O'Neill. Do you mind telling me who you are?" said Jack stirring his coffee as he added sugar and cream to it.
He hoped to know who she was, although she did bear some resemble to mckay. He did not mind the man much, but him and carter had something going on in between and he knew for a fact it wasn't sparks. He kinda hinted that they were rivals....or something like that.
He wouldn't make a suggestion about anything until he knew something. That would make him look like an idiot, and he did not appreciate that sense of humility, although he did know it well.

“New here? Ah, no, sir, well sort of,” Kaylee replied with a kind of shrug. “Been here a couple of times, but I never stay long. If you’ve seen me it might have been in a quick passing, we’ve never actually talked like this before.” The moment Jack answered her question about who he was she smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you Colonel, I’m...” For a second Kaylee paused, afraid to use her last name, of what he might think, but that thought quickly passed. Who cares what her last name was? She loved her dad and anyone who thought something of it could go screw themselves, even if they were from SG-1.
“I’m Kaylee McKay,” she finally introduced, breaking the pause and mere silence. “I just got back from Atlantis last night, been stationed there with my dad.” She held out her hand for him to take and tried to fight back the urge to blush at her lame introduction.
“I’ve read some of your teams mission reports, you’ve done a lot of amazing things, helped save a lot of people from the Goa’uld,” she said, then smiled again. “It is really a great honour to meet you.” She glanced quickly at her computer, remembering her own mission report.
“I haven’t had the chance to go out on many missions yet, but I’m looking forward to the chance,” she explained, then bit her lip, hoping she wasn’t boring him. “So... uh... you just get back from a mission yourself?”

"I see. Then you must be on one of the offworld teams. Go to a world for a cocuple of months, do research, and come back." said Jack as he continued to heat his porridge. it was rather watery, but he continued to eat it. He was beyond the point of exhaustion, but he had some serious jetlag. The planet that they were on was completely during the day, and when night settled there, it was dawn here. It wasn't the first time that it had happened, especially in his old days as a special operations officer.
For a second the girl was hesitant on her name. Just as jack was about to go on, the girl gave way to her last name. It would be Mckay, as he would of figured."Oh, so you are Mckays kid. Haven't heard from him in a while." said Jack putting his spoon down and drinking up some of his coffee.
"Wow. That's quite a few mission reports to read on. Considering how many missions we went on, guaranteed, most of them were not the most exciting." said Jack yawning a bit, before taking a sip of his coffee. "Other missions, not as dull." said jack as he put the cup of coffee down. Missions like blowing up a goa'uld mothership, or doing recon were always fun.
He really had not heard from him in a while, and carter kept her science stuff and stuff about mckay separate, and made sure that she stayed on her work. Hardly mentioned anything about her personal life, and kept it business. Unless if you counted the few times they were stranded off world, and they were not in a non combat situation, they seldom talked about it.
"Yeah, just got back from a planet and i have some serious jetlag. I didn't know it was even possible to get that." said jack as he rubbed his widened his eyes more, trying to keep awake. The coffee would take some work to get done, and he would need more cups to keep him going. But that was not the plan in this case. Real quick breakfast, then sleep till he had to turn in his report to hammond.
"We left here at about....2000 hours last night, and we got back at o lets say 0600 hours. I spent the entire time awake. Luckily there were some very nice people keeping us awake." said Jack as he drank more if his coffee. These nice people were the goa'uld with their staff weapons.

“Yup. I’m his daughter,” Kaylee confirmed with a slight nod and smile, then tucked another loose strand of hair behind her ear as he spoke. “Dad’s been busy lately, working on new technology for Atlantis. Though now that we’ve established an Intergalactic Gate Bridge with the help of Samantha Carter I’m sure he’ll be returning here more frequently.” She watched him for a minute before reaching over and grabbing her cup of coffee and taking a quick sip, putting it back down as he spoke again and listened to him quietly.
“I dont know,” she offered with a shrug. “Even the missions that seem boring are quite fascinating to read. I mean SG-1 has faced so much, more then I can even imagine from just what little I’ve read... it just sounds so... life-threateningly heroic.” She gave another shrug and picked her cup up again taking another sip, a bad habit she’d noticed she’d picked up from her dad. She watched O’Neill from behind the cup and blinked, surprised he’d never run into the jetlag with other planets before. Kaylee, for once, had something on him. She’d gotten used to the different time zones for different planets and had set her watch accordingly each time she went off-world.
“It’s a drag getting jetlag from another planet, let alone another country here on earth,” she told him, thinking about her trip she’d be taking back to Canada soon. “Dr. Beckett back on Atlantis has stimulation pills that help with people about to gate off-world, I’m sure if you talked to Dr. Weir she could send some back in the next shipment to earth.” She took yet another sip of her own coffee again and gave him a smile at her suggestion, then heard his answer to her earlier question.
“Yikes,” she said at his answer about his latest off-world mission. “Sounds like those nice people are still doing the job of keeping you awake. Shouldn’t you at least try and get some rest, sir?” She knew it was easier said than done, just look at her dad, up all night and barely alive the next day.
“You dont want to wear yourself down, though I suppose...” she paused bit her lip and felt bad. “Suppose you dont need to be hearing that from me.” She chanced a glance at him as she moved to eat her porridge and took in a few spoonfuls, looking at her computer for a second then back at Jack.
“When are you gating off-world again?” she asked curiously. “Any time soon?”

His thoughts were confirmed as she admitted to the fact of her being mckays daughter. She went onto other things, which jack was keeping a half ear on. She began talking about the galactic space bridge thing, and that pinged in his head. Carter had mentioned that once while on a mission. "Yea, carter told me about it. That bridge is supposed to make travel easier right?" said Jack. He was not sure how it functioned and if he went to carter, she would do her best to explain it in common English, and if he went to mckay, he would keep it the smarty pants way and call him an idiot if he did not understand it.
The only way he knew that it would make travel easier is because that's what a bridge usually did. Transported you over something hazardous that would result in either someone or something getting damaged. It was safe to say she probably had a bit of both mckay and carter in her, so he would not ask just to be on the safe side.
As she went on, she had said that some of the reports were interesting, regardless how they were to him or his team. Guaranteed, a mission always seemed appealing to one member of the team. Sometimes it was daniel, sometimes it was teal'c, sometimes it was carter. A mission or two pegged Jack's interest, and those missions were often cause taking otu an enitre shipyard of enemies.
But then she went on. She had said the word that most admirers of the SG-1 team heard. That they were heroic and all that kinds of stuff. "Aw, your making me blush." said Jack with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. He head heard that from higher ups and some that were not so high up, but still admired them.
"Yea i probably should sleep, but Hammond doesn't want the reports in until we all have gotten a good nights rest. He will probably give us a day to relax a bit before sending us off world again. Although everyone else has plans, Hammond wants me to see how the progress in Atlantis is going." said Jack. No sooner as soon as he said that, Kaylee mentioned about a doctor there who had medicine for that. "Oh really? Then maybe while im at atlantis i can pick up a few for some of the teams." said Jack eating his porridge and coffee.

Soo padded down the path, her ears perking up every so often as she passed different tunnels. When she had drifted off to sleep in the "hos-pit-tal-roo-mm", Dan-yel and Co-nal-Jaak had been there, but when she woke, they were nowhere to be found. Soo found she was covered in an odd cloth from her neck to her legs, but since her claws, talons, and tail were free to move, it concerned her for only a moment. No, she had other worries to tend to first. Her heart had raced in panic at the other strange "huumns" around her, but once she realized that they were not watching her, she slipped away quietly. They never even noticed.
Huumns are very loud and slow... She noted to herself as she watched the strange beings move past her along the path. Soo realized that they were often hesitated, staring at her as she walked past. She paused, thinking. She looked down at the path, swirling one claw around on te cold stone.
Dan-yel walks on two legs, Co-nal-Jaak walks on two legs, huumns walk on two legs...
Of course!
Quickly, she stood up on her hind legs. Her tail thrashed as she took her first couple of steps, tentative as so not to loose her balance. Of course. That was why all the huumns were staring...she had been walking on all four legs, not just two!
Smiling, she continued her way down the path, seeking out a familiar face. If only she could find Dan-yel...he was clever for a huumn. He had been able to make sounds into words...
Something caught her attention. Turing her head back and forth, she focused on the smell. It was something warm, something that reminded her of the Tiilra plants. Following the smell, she quickly found that it lead to an odd wall. Gently pushing against the wall, she realized that the wall actually moved! Worried that she had broken another huumn "ll-ton-nk", she scuttled backwards. The wall shifted again and, much to Soo's surprise, a huumn stepped out. The wall swung back and forth until it settled into place.
Ah...
Soo pressed against the wall, pleased to see that the wall wasn't a wall at all, but a false covering for a room full of huumns seated on silvery stumps.
The huumns must be clever after all...
Amongst the other huumns, she found co-nal-Jakk seated at one of the stumps. Dropping back down on all fours, Soo quietly wove her way around the huumns and right up to co-nal-Jakk. But her thoughts were quickly turned away from her new huumn friend and instead was directed to the object on the taller stump. This was where the smell had come from!! This white, lumpy mass was the familiar smell! She stared at the lumpy thing, wonder what it was and why it smelled like the plant from back home...

"Hello there!" said jack in surprise as he was brushed aside by the lion like creature that they had brought back on a mission a while back. She happened to be injured, and when daniel asked why the village did not help her, they simply left her to die. So they brought her here to the SGC to heal. She had been recuperating the past few days. So, with the help of the command, they decided to make it their residential pet/thing, until it learned to speak.
On the planet, the only reason they had some sort of communication was that daniel, through odd noises was able to communicate with the creature. That's how he convinced the entire village that they were allies, and they did not concieve how to work their own gate. Hence, why they were hesitant at first to make first contact.
Seeing that the beast was looking down at his bowl of porridge, jack pushed aside the white bowl to the animal like creature."Here you go girl." said Jack as he pushed a bowl towards the creature as he could almost see the envy of her tongue eating up the morning liquid.
He wasn't sure if the creature should be eating it or not. Hell, he did not even know what it was. But he knew that if the sgc was going to return it, they were not sure it would be accepted back in. If not, they could always use a guard dog on the prometheus. But it would make one neat looking pet if he had brought it home. But unlike their Jaffa friend teal'c blending into society would not be accomplished at all. So if it did manage some form of speak it would be excellent. With the help of jackson, that may be possible.

Soo-Poh cocked an ear up slightly, listening to co-nal-Jaak make mouth noises, as she easily accepted the lumpy white goop. Up close, it smelled even more like the seedy stalks of the Tiilra plant and she realized that it was some sort of food for the huumns. Ducking her head down, she gave co-nal-Jaak one last, brief look before quickly lapping at the huumn food.
It felt warm and mushy across her tongue, but it was food. It had no taste to it, but it filled the belly with in a satisfactory way. In fact, it was sort of good. Soo leaned even further over the odd stump to eat up the Tiilra mush, trying to lap it up. Suddenly, she realized that the hard underside of the mush was actually a container to hold the huumn food and, by grasping it around its curved base, it could be tilted closer to get the last of the scraps.
Gone...
Soo lifted the container up slightly, her nose probing its interior curve, trying to find any lasting mush, but, alas, it was all gone. Snuffling slightly, she cooed and clicked in content.
All gone. Thank you, co-nal-Jaak for the huumn Tiilra mush. It was quite good.
Judging from the look she got from him, co-nal-Jaak still didn't understand anything except for the few huumn words she knew. Oh well, perhaps co-nal-Jaak knew where Dan-yel was. Dan-yel was good at learning and teaching...

Kaylee stared in intrigue and surprise as the creature zipped up out of nowhere and sat beside Jack O’Neill. Other then Ronon Dex and Teyla Emmagan, Atlantis didn’t have any alien creature living amongst the expedition team, besides the few passersby, or the one’s that got studied on by the tech crew. This creature was fascinating, unlike any kind of living thing she seen, or right out of a fairytale. Quickly Kaylee saved her mission report on the laptop and closed it with a tiny click, watching how the creature interacted with O’Neill.
For the longest time she just stared, unable to take her eyes off the creature, totally engrossed by its features, its actions, movements, everything. Finally she tore her eyes away from the creature and looked up at O’Neill, eyebrows raised.
“Sir... does... she - he - um...” she nodded with her chin to the creature unsure of what to call it or chance insulting it. “... does it have a name?” She cleared her throat and tried very hard not to glance over at the creature, finally she did and gave it a smile as it finished off the blow of porridge.

Soo looked up at the other huumn. She wasn't exactly sure what was said, but from what she could tell, the female huumn was friendly. Well, sounded friendly, perhaps. Wide, staring eyes usually meant that a hunter was tracking prey, but given the fact that it was huumn, it might mean something else to them.
Tilting her head, Soo blinked a few times, staring back and studying the huumn female. Something slick dripped onto the stump beneath her chin. She looked down, realized that some of the food mush was left on her face, and happily flicked her tongue out to slurp it off.
Mmmmmmmmmm...Tiilra mush...huumns may be confusing, but they certainly got this part right! Soo thought, grinning. Now, if only they could make their mouth sounds less confusing...

Jack nodded as the creature quickly lapped up the food. He was not so good with linguistics, but he understood when someone liked something. After polishing off the bowl of mush she clicked and cooed with happiness. He understood that much and ran his hand along the creatures fur.
For a second Kaylee was astonished at the beast. "You know it's impolite to stare right?" said Jack waving his hand in front of kaylee's face. Answering her question jack replied "It's a she and from what we got from daniel its 'soo-poh' " said Jack in the same manner daniel had.
The creature licked the mush it had off its lips and got it clean. Jack sipped his coffee till it was gone, helping himself to some toast and orange juice.

Hearing co-nal-Jaak say her name, Soo lifted her ears and looked quizzically up at him. She was unfamiliar with the huumns need for continuously stroking her mane, but it seemed to be a cultural thing that they enjoyed, so she tolerated it, as always. The huumns were much like cublings, fascinated with chasing the fur on their tails or grabbing at the manes of others.
Soo stood, leaning against co-nal-Jaak affectionately. As many huumns as she has met over the past days, she liked co-nal-Jaak. He was a good huumn, strong and brave. Not as smart as Dan-yel, but good.
Her nose twitched, interests shifting to what he was now consuming. These were new smells, warm and plain and tangy. The warm, sharp smell was gone before she could discover what the smell was, swallowed quickly from an odd round stone co-nal-Jaak held. As he picked up an orange rock, she realized that it was another huumn food container; clear, this time, to show the orange liquid inside. This was the tangy, interesting smell!
Soo leaned futher on co-nal-Jaak, pushing her shoulder against his, in eager attempts to learn what the tangy-smelling liquid was before he consumed it completely.
